What We Do

Select cut harvest

and what that means

for your forest

Jerome Miller Lumber Co. always strives to make a positive impact on the woods we operate in. We specialize in select cut harvest to not only ensure there is a woods left when we are done, but to ensure we leave it a healthier place than when we arrive. We focus on sustainability and renewability by only removing fully mature trees at the end of their life cycle, and diseased trees. This gives the younger generations new space in the canopy to grow into. This style of cutting also allows us to promote biodiversity in the woods. Removing only select trees creates pockets of sunlight and shade allowing different trees to grow within these zones.

Our crews work with single bunk forwarders that are agile enough to move through your woods without cutting a highway into the middle of the forest. They know how to best utilize the wood we remove, whether it be logs, or pulp wood. We utilize as much of the timber as possible. Logs are transported to our sawmill, where they will be graded and scaled, and we utilize the pulp wood down to 4”. The remainder of the tops are worked down as much as possible, and left to feed the soil in the woods.
